How to Connect a UPS to your Computer and Monitor

All explained in Layman’s terms

For those of you who haven’t tried using a UPS yet and curious, or haven’t seen one yet, let me explain you how it works and how exactly do you use it.

What’s a UPS?

It’s a backup battery system that also supplies clean electricity for your equipment. Ideal for PC systems, servers and security systems.

It kicks in once power goes out and is good for minutes to hours depending on the model of the UPS.

It’s simple as waiting for paint to dry

  • First, choose a UPS of your choice, if you want something practical and has ample power, get a 1800 Watt model like this one from Panther Electrical.Panther Unlimited Power Supply Model 500 image
  • Plug in your PC’s power supply cord to the UPS.
  • Make sure to plug in your monitor to the UPS, otherwise you won’t see anything when the power’s out.
  • Make sure the capacity is higher than your power supply’s power rating.
  • Treat it like your average voltage regulator. Turn on,use and forget.
  • When the power’s out that’s when the magic happens as you’ll see here:

And that’s how you connect a UPS to your PC  .

Planning to use the UPS for something else? Not sure what you’ll use it for? Then let’s find out what you really need. It’s not cheap so this is important.

This article might be short but I’m going straight to the point here avoiding all the technical stuff so all of you can grasp how to do it quick and easy.

Don’t drain it too much mind you, it’s just for backup purposes like saving your files ASAP while the UPS is on backup power mode, as such it also has a lifespan so best to take note.

There we go folks, have a safe and uninterrupted entertainment and work experience… for 10 minutes!

If… There’s a power outage that is. Lol

See you guys around!
